I have been using a propane patio heater in the shop. It has a nice radius of heat and the flame is well away from the combustable stuff on the floor.
46,000 btu for about $230.

I use a old torpedo heater.. it takes about a hour to warm up the shop..then the two electric heaters take over and keep things warm...the other day when it was 52..I kept turning on the torpedo heater..to keep the shop at 70 so I could put my last coat of paint on...

Just FYI, as I understand it, propane heaters generate a lot of moisture into the air, not always the best environment if one is epoxying.

Re: Shop Heat
I came across an old pot belly stove years ago. Was rusted, but intact. Wire brushed all the rust off of it, then coated it with grill paint, then put it in the garage. Detached garage, no insulation. I light up the fire, and within 15 minutes, its warming the garage. On an 18 degree day, after an hour or a little more, I can get the garage up to about 65 degrees. I still can't get my wife to enjoy a romantic evening by the fireplace.....don't know why.
