I was able to mount the helm unit without removing the helm box but loosening the bolts that hold the bracket and then placing the helm unit in place with the 3 bolts before re-tightening the bracket bolts. I also cut out the hole for the Radio and placed it into the helm box. Gauges to be added soon. Would love the Glen-L faced gauges but I cant afford anything that fancy. I now have a better understanding of how the engine is suppose to hook up to the cable. My motor being rather old does not have a support tube for the Ram on the end of the cable so I get to try to figure out a mounting method and attachment. I am including a photo of the mast windshield support to show what I am trying to do there.

Wheel arrived today which will allow me to feed the cable into the helm.

Just need one additional gauge for my helm before starting to run wiring etc. The mast is installed but I need to obtain the light assy for the top. I like how the Mast turned out.

I am having a real struggle trying to figure out how to hook up the steering cable in a correct way to the motor. If I had gone with the old cable push pull system the motor side would have been a bit easier but with a single cable it is a pain in the rear trying to come up with a simple solution that allows the hookup and allows the engine to tilt etc.???? I then will have to buy new cables for the motor control throttle and shift.

Hi Craig,

I think you need a "splashwell" mount.

This will hold the cable housing at the side of the splash well, and flex enough to allow tilting the motor. Then you'll have a straight shot to the motor.

I am having a tough time trying to figure out where to mount my modest fuse block for all my electrics. I kind of want it hidden so all the wires dont show but also need to be able to access it quickly and see it without straining to get under something.? It has been many years since I last did any DC boat wiring so I have forgotten a lot other than it was fairly straight forward. I think I had a sharper mind though at that time. So I plan to gang all the negative and positive wires as much as possible to limit wiring. Not sure where to put Gas tank and Battery although I would prefer them forward closer to the Center of Buoyancy of the boat and on the port side to offset my body weight of 230 lbs, But it would be easier to have them nearer the transom.? Lots of thinking at this stage.

It's cheap enough that you can get lots of different colors. It would really be a nightmare for everything to be red and black, although I did buy a 100' roll of black and did all my negative in that. The positive wires are mostly different colors. The main negative from the battery I did in yellow, however. In a cruiser that's more important if you are running some AC so you don't mix up DC neg with AC hot wire.

Thanks Matt I will look into that. My boat looks a mess with tools and gear all over the place as I try to figure out and run wires etc. I did hookup a battery to my starter control and motor yesterday and the start circuit works so today I might take a compression test. I am not quite ready to put fuel to the old motor and try to start but I also remembered I have a oil leak somewhere that lets nice fresh oil drain down the leg so it is likely from the seal at the motor head to leg attachment or the lower part of my oil pan. I also have an opportunity to pick up an 85hp bearcat that I am told is ready to go and in very good shape along with many spares and two more bearcat 55's all three for 1800, very tempting although a bit of a financial stretch for me. the 85 would be a cool vintage motor and probably better power for my heavy Sea Knight. Also the 85 gives me 30 more horses for only 30lbs added weight. I am not sure what my boat will weight but I expect it to between 2000=2500lbs?? only guessing at this time.

Craig, there's no way your boat weighs 2500 and probably not even 2000. Maybe 1300-1400 with a motor on it? 85 hp would be great.

Thanks for the feedback Matt, That would be nice if it were not so heavy. Do you have a weight for yours at this point. I did stretch my hull 18" but our hulls are otherwise pretty much the same I would think. I did some compression test today and was getting a bit worried about one of my cylinders the #4 bottom one was way low compared to healthy numbers on the other 3. I tried it a number of times and then got the shop vac out and with the throttles wide open and plugs off vacuumed the heck out of the lower carb and also the plug hole while turning the flywheel on top. That brought the cylinder up to a healthier 130lbs.

Craig, I have only an educated guess at to how much my Geronimo weighs. I think the hull is pretty close to plan. I did stretch to 17 feet so that should put it at around 6-700 pounds. Add gear fuel and motor to that. And you have a cabin too but I can't imagine that adding more than about a couple hundred pounds.

I didnt install any drain plugs or holes except for my motor well. Should I have? I hate holes in a hull below the water line. I do have an electric bilge pump to install however and will have a manual one as well for removing rain water etc.
