How many switches?

Post by DrBryanJ »

I'm planning my electric circuits and trying to figure switches. This is what I figure:
3 position for nav/ anchor lights
3 position for bilge pumps
momentary for horn
2 position for bilge blower
2 position for courtesy lights

gauges need electric but do they need a switch on the dash? Same question for radio and/or fish finder that has a switch on unit: do you have one on dash as well?

Sounds about right for accessories. Gauges could be powered by ignition switch. Relays could be incorporated to relieve load on ignition switch in all cases and turn off all electrical devices with a turn of the key.

Thanks Roberta: Not sure I understand that, but I'm sure my EE son will.

My guages and their lights are wired to the ignition switch. I have a horn & relay that is wired to a push button switch. All other items, bilge blowers, bilge pumps (each pump has its own switch), nav lights have their own switches so they will operate whether the ignition switch is on or not.
