Re: Lake Powell gathering interest
I'm planning for 2014. I think May or September would be best. The summer months are busier and rates will be higher for the lodge and for house boat rental. September is better as the cutoff past Castle Rock is open due to higher water levels. It is closed until late June or early July when the lake level gets high enough for safe passage. May is prettier, though, due to the green foliage of Spring. I'm good to go anyway we decide. WahWeap Lodge and Marina near Page, AZ would be a great base point. We plan on staying at least a week so we can tour the lake. Most likely get to Page on a Tuesday or Wednesday and head back home on the following Tuesday or Wednesday. Page is a full service city so supplies are available and reasonable. Not sure at this point if we will houseboat or do the lodge.

Re: Lake Powell gathering interest
right now the road to page is destroyed http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid= ... permPage=1 I kind of staying away from sept due to the tenn gathering time. depending on snow fall and melt early spring unless they start dumping water the water lvl will rise quick may you can see some storms down there as well up north here we can still get snow in may. yes mid season is bad but it is warm down that way during day until nov cool for me at least probably in the 60-70s range.
but may be we could get people from tenn gather if we have it a week after, road to the lake Powell gather for it

Re: Lake Powell gathering interest
I guess the best way is to get a consensus from people willing the make the trek. I'm flexible, but prefer not to plan too closely to the Tennessee gathering. This will allow for people to plan for both, if possible. I would not want to trek from WI to Tn to AZ and Back to WI in one trip.
You're facebook link does not seem to work. Are you talking about Highway 89 to Page being destroyed?

Re: Lake Powell gathering interest
TRAFFIC ALERT: US 89 in northern Arizona is closed because a 150-foot section of pavement buckled this morning (2-20-13) about 25 miles south of Page. The cause is not related to weather and may be a geologic event.
US 89 is closed northbound at US 89A, which takes traffic west toward Jacob Lake. In Page, US 89 is closed at the junction with State Route 98. The alternate route to Page will take drivers east on US 160 to SR 98 (about 50 miles) and north on SR 98 to Page. The detour is about 45 miles longer than the direct route. It is not known at this time how long the road will be closed.

Re: Lake Powell gathering interest
For us, the closure would not be a factor as we would most likely get to Page via 98 or south on 89 from Kanab. Very likely we would drive through Colorado and come down through Moab and through Monument Valley. I would think the road would be repaired by next year, but you never know!!

Re: Lake Powell gathering interest

it looks like camping area is real cheap compared to what it cost to camp up this way the camp ground must not be to far from hotel because people in camp grounds can use some of the hotel services.

I know the RV park is just NW of the resort on LakeShore Dr. Walking distance to the Marina that rents boats and to the Hotel and Rainbow Room restaurant.

Re: Lake Powell gathering interest
I just called the resort down at lake Powell and they want me to send them a email to get information package and to talk about when where and such.
they defiantly told me depending on the size of group they might have to contact the state to get things partially arranged with the state.

Check with Robin Marquis about the gathering. I've been in contact with Robin last year regarding our gathering and the response was very positive.

Re: Lake Powell gathering interest
After a lot of thought, I think we should plan this gathering for mid July, 2014. The weather will be hot, but more predictably good. It will be a busy time, but if we reserve accommodations early, it should be fine. The lake level will be high enough to open the Castle Rock Cutoff to better access the canyons and other places like Rainbow Bridge. This location is a true vacation spot and having it in the summer allows folks with school age children to be able to spend the time necessary to make it a worthwhile trip. This time will not conflict with the Tennessee gathering.
