If I am having my rear upright seat cushion, for an example, upholstered onto 1/2 plywood. Most likely foam attached and then material stretched over and around plywood edges and stapled. I am making as assumption here of course. Do I completely expoxy the plywood before sending to the upholstery fellow. Will that make it more difficult for him to staple and staples will penetrate the epoxy anyway. Other option is I just epoxy the exposed back when it is returned.
I know many of you have make the cushions almost stand alone and then attached them to the plywood. Trying to find the most logical conclusion or at least looking for some suggestions.

I used the marine paint left over from painting the bottom of the boat.

Re: Seat backs and bottoms (epoxy)
It certainly won't hurt to epoxy the whole thing. I did.

Re: Seat backs and bottoms (epoxy)
My factory built boat used treated plywood, no paint or epoxy, holding up fine.
I haven't gotten that far on my build...foam and upholstery will hold damp against the plywood so rot maybe, mildew maybe, I will put something on the plywood.

Re: Seat backs and bottoms (epoxy)
I coated both sides of the seats with epoxy and my upholstery guy had no problem stapling into them. He will be doing my crash pads and mentioned that sometimes the epoxy can shatter when stapled on the deck. I have only varnish on my decks, so I don't need to worry about that one.

Thank you all. Chug a lug I didn't think about the warping so I appreciate the heads up. I haven't gotten to deck finishing yet but I was planning on epoxy and then varnish. I didn't think about the epoxy possibly shattering, however, I don't anticipate having any upholstery contact by decking or the coaming. Again, thanks to you all.

Re: Seat backs and bottoms (epoxy)
I used two pack perfection gloss varnish over my epoxy and had no problems, the finish was excellent...and tough.
