16’ gentleman’s racer - need power!

Post by Waksail17 »

Hey everyone

I promise I will put together a build post with some pictures (I know how important pictures are in the forum world), but we’re at a stand still on our 16’ gentleman’s racer because we can’t find a suitable (read: small enough) engine to fit the dimensions of the engine room. The boat is a William Jackson design 1920’s runabout. We cut all the frame pieces out on our cnc router and re ready to mount the engine bearers. The exterior will be cold molded with plans mahogany and then epoxy/fiberglass. We’re constrained by 22ish inches for the height of the engine to still be able to close the hatch. A marinized fiat engine has been suggested as well as a jet ski conversion (have seen some CRAZY surface drive jet ski engine conversions). We’d like a transmission obviously so the jet ski thing is probably less desirable as I don’t know of any options for adapting a bell housing and transmission to a jet ski engine. The tiny mite seems to have a small engine box so maybe someone can direct me to the best, smallest, 150ish hp option for that boat??

ANY help is much appreciated - thanks!!!
