My latest boat builds
Thought you guys might like to see my latest boats I have been building. They are of a little bit smaller scale than the Zip but the hydroplane is probably faster, check the video links below the pictures.
1939 Presidents Cup winner, Miss Canada III Video of it running. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1BpTw3BvPU
Vintage Shovel-Nose Hydroplane Here is video of the first couple test runs.

I just knew you had to be building something, and now we know. The boats all look great. Will the scale model Zip also be powered?
Re: My latest boat builds
I haven't put a GPS on the Hydroplane but based off others that have I know its gotta be in the high 30's or right around 40mph tops. Maybe I should put my cell phone inside it with the GPS on next time and find out for sure.
Yes, the mini Zip will be powered with a Aquacraft EP-1 electric outboard on 7 cells. The battery should just fit under the seat base. http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/prodde ... h-aqub7861

Good on ya! I'd be proud of those builds too.
Re: My latest boat builds
Chris are you running a lipo battery in the hydro and if so what size 2,3,or4 cell and if not think what it will do on a 3cell 3200 or 4000 lipo

Re: My latest boat builds
Pretty cool. What happens if it flips over? Does it ruin the motor or does it sink?
Re: My latest boat builds
Red, I am running two, 2s Lipo's in series for 4s=14.8 volts, 5000mah.
Bob,
The motor and electronic speed controller are water proof and water cooled as well via a pickup hole in the rudder. The batteries are hard cased and insulated. The radio receiver is not protected so it is wrapped tightly in a plastic baggy and the wires/antenna tightly zip tied where they exit the baggy.
Most of the extra bare space inside the boat I have cut foam to fit. So it should have positive floatation. The hatch has foam in it too should it come off in a flip. The hatch also gets taped in place along the seams when running with a strong clear tape similar to basic scotch tape. So in a normal flip it will not leak and if it does you just pour it out, re-tape and continue running, no damage done.
