securing wires

Post by mdweber »

Hello all,
I'm beginning to work out the electrical systems. I've run the wires, but am not sure how to secure them to the frame members that they run along. What do you guys use for this?

I put wires in split loom then cable loops. I also have put a PVC pipe the length of the boat on each side to run wiring through. I try to keep wiring out of the bilge as much as possible to stay away from fumes.

Thanks Bill. I like that idea. What are the cable loops?

Lowes, HomeDepot, etc carry them in all kinds of sizes both metal/rubber and plastic.

Awesome! Now for screwing them into the frames, is it best to drill a larger than needed pilot hole, backfill with thickened epoxy, and then bore a regular pilot hole in that to make it water tight?

For me I don't fool with the pre-drill and fill unless it's very exposed area. I usually just use a dab of sealer like 4200 on the screw.

those are welcome words, Bill! Got me thinking, would 4200 be good for sealing switches and instruments in the dash?
