How's this sound:
Used Mercruiser Chevy 5.0 I/O out of a 1984 Sea Ray cruiser.
Hours: unknown but I'm told it runs
Needs: Water pump, bellhousing / flywheel(?), Starter
I would probably tear it down, clean it up, re-paint, new gaskets, rebuild the carb., new hoses / belts, etc. Maybe hone the cylinders and drop in a set of rings. The ignition module and wiring harness is there, so are the exhaust manifolds & risers. Alternator & fuel water filter. Carb w/ flame arrester and front engine mounts.
Glen-L model under consideration: Tahoe 20'
$800.00 out the door and it's at the marina 2 minutes from my house....
Bargain or not?

Hi Bluesman,
It could be depending upon a couple concerns I would have about it.
Did the marina mention why it was replaced?
And are they willing to put some sort of guarantee on it that nothing is cracked or unusable on the assembly (such as block, heads, manifolds, etc.)?
Thanks,
Dave

Re: I think I have an Engine
Something happened to the hull and the boat was scrapped. There were (2) engines and the other was installed in another boat.
Basically the guy said he's selling me the assembly for the cost if I had to buy the accessories (manifolds, risers, ignition, carb.) and the engine he's essentially giving me. So even if there were something wrong with the long block I could buy another one for less than buying a new crate engine and I have all the other parts.

Re: I think I have an Engine
I would ask to see it run.
you should be able to hook up garden hose water, battery, and a gas can, and crank it up.
if there is no freeze cracks, nor bad cylinders, and you don't have to pay shipping, then it's worth it.

Oak is over rated, everything about it takes extra time; then it warps, splits or checks !!!

Re: I think I have an Engine
Well it followed me home.... Thanks for your note Ken but running it would involve some ignition parts and probably a carb. rebuild. It does turn over and I'm pretty good at engine building so I'll strip it down, clean it up, replace & rebuild as needed.
