GL 14 sloop to balanced lug rig?

Dinghies, day sailers, world cruisers. Many small sailboats make ideal rowboats or low-speed power boats.

GL 14 sloop to balanced lug rig?

Post by DreamerG »

Once upon a time I was planning to build a 15-ft boat, and I started by building the sail, a 91-sq-ft balanced lug. That beautiful sail has been languishing for years! Now I'm about to get the 14-ft sloop, and wondering if I could use the lug sail on it. I'll be single-handing, and I do like the idea of one sail to deal with. Has anyone tried such a rig change? Do you think it could work? Thanks for any input--

I don't know of anyone that's used a balanced lug on the Glen-L 14 but it is possible. We don't have any details on using this sail rig, but I believe you'll want to maintain the CE of the sails per the design for your new sails.
