CATEGORY : Sportfishers - Open Cockpit
CONSTRUCTION: Sheet plywood planking/wood framing or welded aluminum
This fisherman’s delight has an agile, superb-riding variable-angle deep-v hull with a 40+º forefoot angle and 18½º transom angle. Wide chine flats and two lift strakes per side assure directional control, quick and economical performance, and the rock-solid stability that fishermen demand.
A huge self-bailing cockpit includes raised casting platform forward, space for a portable head, plenty of storage, and seating for four including fore-or-aft facing helm seat. Power is by I/O units to 1200 lbs., or single or twin outboards (25" shaft length singles; 20" or 25" twins). Other power systems (v-drive, jets, bracket-mounted outboard, etc.) may be suitable with minor modifications. Fuel capacity is generous regardless.
Plywood planking is double ¼" bottom. " sides, all sheathed with fiberglass. Aluminum hulls use 3/16" bottom and " sides. Plans with instructions show how to vary length 2' shorter or longer, and include FULL-SIZE PATTERNS, instructions, material listings, and fastening schedule (wood plan). A carefully planned structure emphasizing longitudinal stiffeners minimizes the need for side frames encroaching upon cockpit space.
